For this year’s Ignite the Nation Homecoming event, we will all meet and gather on Kumospace.

Kumospace is a new, interactive and immersive way for us to reunite. In the Virtual Hall, we can actively mingle and talk amongst ourselves in groups or be part of the bigger collective as if we were in an actual, physical space.

Not only is the Virtual Hall the ideal venue in these social-distanced times, it is also a creative alternative for enjoying the homecoming with our batchmates and friends. The main platform for streaming and viewing the event, however, will still be on YouTube.

The Spatial Audio feature allows you to listen and converse among those within proximity, as if at an actual event, or choose to listen or converse with everyone within the hall. Attendees can also navigate the space with their cursors, with their profile pics on display if their cameras are activated.

Our Kumospace room will be designed and set up to resemble familiar places such as our classrooms or other hang-out areas from around the campus.

You can connect to the Ignite the Nation Virtual Hall in 3 easy steps:

1. Visit the official Ignite the Nation Kumospace at kumospace.com/ignitethenation2021
2. Sign in with your Google account]
3. Enter the space, mingle and enjoy!

Find all you need to know on how to access and navigate Kumospace for an enjoyable virtual homecoming event, including a few troubleshooting tips on common audio-visual issues.
  • Visit the URL of your Kumospace room and sign in to your profile with your email, Google or Facebook
  • Exit the room, go to Profile and click Sign Out.
  • Click on the Map button at the bottom right corner of your screen. This shows where everyone is in the room, as indicated by their initials. To reveal their names, hover over their initials. To quickly move around the room, use the map by clicking on the location where you’d like to go.
  • Click with your mouse or tap on your screen to indicate where you want to go and your video will follow.
  • You may also use the Up, Down, Left and Right arrow keys on your keyboard.
  • On a phone or tablet, swipe towards the direction or click on where you’d like to go.
  • First, leave the room you are in by clicking “Exit Room” at the bottom of the screen. This brings you back to the waiting room where you can see all the rooms in the space. Then simply click on another room to enter it.
  • Only a maximum of 30 people are allowed in one room. Due to this restriction, it is recommended that you refrain from jumping from room to room.
  • Meanwhile, an unlimited number of rooms can be created in one space.
  • Around your avatar is a faint circle representing your Spatial Audio Range. Anyone inside this circle can hear you and you can hear them. Anyone outside the circle is out of “earshot”. This makes separate private conversations possible in Kumospace.
  • Users can hide the Range Indicator by clicking on Settings in the bottom right corner of your screen and unchecking “Show Range Indicator”.
  • Hosts can adjust the Audio Range in a room by choosing Quiet, Normal, Loud or Entire Room from the dropdown menu in Settings.
  • Spatial audio refers to how sound in Kumospace behaves the same as in real life. The closer you are to someone, the louder they sound and vice versa.
  • Camera and microphone permissions must be turned on in Google Chrome. When prompted by a yellow banner at the bottom of your screen, click on “Update your permissions”. This opens a window which will then prompt you to give Google Chrome access to your camera and microphone.
  • Click More (three vertical dots) at the top right of your Chrome browser, then choose Setting. Under “Privacy and Security”, click Site settings. Then, click Microphone.
  • Try clicking the Microphone button at the bottom of the window to mute and unmute. You can also use the hotkey “2” on your keyboard. If this does not solve the problem, click on Settings, and select the correct microphone.
  • Check that your volume is on and up to an audible level. Then check your computer’s audio settings to see if they are configured to the correct output device.
  • If audio is garbled, this may be caused by more than three people talking at the same time. Have some people mute their microphone or split up into smaller groups.
  • Camera and microphone permissions must be turned on in Google Chrome. If they are turned off, a yellow banner will appear at the bottom of your Kumospace. Click on “Update your permissions” and a window will pop up, prompting you to allow Google Chrome to access your camera and microphone.
  • At the top right of your Chrome browser, click More (three vertical dots), then choose Settings. Under “Privacy and Security,” click Site settings, then click Camera.
  • First, close out any other applications or browser tabs that might be using your camera. Then check that your video is switched on in your Kumospace. Click Camera in the navigation bar at the bottom of your screen. If the issue persists, click on the Settings button, and select the correct video input device.
  • To send a private message, click the Chat or People button in the bottom-left corner of the screen, then select the three dots (…) next to the person with whom you’d like to chat.
  • Approach any drink station such as bar carts, coolers or coffee machines. Click to grab a virtual drink. Keep clicking until you get the drink you want.
  • Kumospace works best with MacOS or Windows desktop and laptop computers. Kumospace also works on iPhones, iPads or Android tablets even if these devices are not yet fully supported by Kumospace.
  • Chrome is the only browser officially supported by Kumospace, resulting in an optimal Kumospace experience. On Firefox, you may experience some video latency and other performance-related issues. Safari is not recommended, as audio issues are commonplace due to browser incompatibilities.
  • Unresponsive or laggy performance can typically be resolved by simply exiting then re-entering the room. If movement is still unresponsive, freezing, or lagging, it is recommended to close out background tabs and applications.
